關於這首詩的出處：一個普通的美國家庭，母女相依為命，女兒的父親在女兒4歲時應徵入伍去了越南，不幸陣亡。母親一直活到了80歲都沒有再嫁。母親去世後，女兒在整理母親的東西時，發現了一首母親親手寫的詩，題目就叫《但是你沒有》。
